Final Task: JUSTICE

Image
Hi, Kayla here. So, this is the final task video. I reviewed the video and made sure it was the correct one. I am glad with the outcome. I had a lot of fun doing this project. This was a earning experience for me when it comes to doing an actual film. We had to be a little more independent. I learned some new editing tools and how to work some new tech. My favorite scene would decently be with the blood. That was definitely a lot of fun to do. I absolutely enjoyed doing this final and would do it again.

Final Review: Changes actually made.

Image
Hello, Kayla here. So, this blog will be about tbe actual changes that were made to the film. Some of the suggestions that were made to me by my family were done and some on our own. The shooting scene in my opinion wasn't too graphic so that was left the way it was. We saw no reason to re-shoot it. I also, took into consideration what was said to me and we did end up shortening the shooting scene. That was originally 11 seconds and was trimmed down tremendously. I also did some changes to the lighting. So from 0:48 seconds to 1:05 I created and added a sunlight filter. From 1:05 to the ending of the video I made and used a nighttime filter. It took me a while. I thought the filters were already made but turns out it wasn't. So, I had to use the color adjustment settings to get them to come out the way we desired. I also did end up adding some fade-outs but took them out in the end. I had to export like three different videos and go back to add ontop each. The behind the scenes...

Editing Blog: Effects

Image
Hi, Kayla here. In this Blog I will be disappointed how I made the gunshot effect. So, the reason I had to make the effect was due to the fact that one of my groupmates thought the BB gun used would make a firing sound. I don't know why. The gun is fake so the only sound it makes it the clicking of the trigger. I looked at a couple videos to show me how to make the sound. I downloaded s couple editing programs and went straight to work. I tried to make the sounds just from the effects off the app. I quickly realized that wouldn't work out. So, then I tried to watch one with firecrackers. I didn't have any firecrackers so that was a no. I then grabbed a few items and started to make sounds. At one point in time I had stopped that because the recordings weren't blending properly to make the proper sound. I then tried to get the sound from a game and then do my own editing. So I turned on my phone and went on a game. Started firing and hoped to get the bases of the sound. ...

Editing Blog: Openshot

Image
Hello, Kayla here. So, this blog will be my first editing blog. This will be on the editing platform that was used for the film. We used openshot video editor to edit. Open shot has features including Title editor, 3D Animation, Cross platforms and more. So, all the videos and clips that we have, have been made into one file. I organized them by video. The maximum amount of tracks were five. I learned how to check the content. I dragged it throught time which shows you differe parts of the video. As, I played around with the app I learned how to place more than one clip onto each track. I learned how to rotate and scale. Scale gets rid of the black bars shown by stretching the clip. I learned how to screamed more than one key frame. I also learned that a razor tool form the edit toolbar is what's used to cut a clip. The app is overall pretty great. It took me a while to get a hang of it. I kept clicking on the wrong things and had to go back and start over. I also edited some of th...

Production Blog: And Action!

Image
Hello, Kayla here. Today my group and I did a couple things. Ariel, Zahra, and I filmed the scenes with Zahra and I. This scene is one of the later ones in the film. After the whole shooting has taken place, this is giving a little glimpse of the aftermath. We filmed at a park that was closr to our school. It was the most convenient location for us, especially today. We got off early so we had to choose somewhere we knew and familiar with. It also was a perfect setting for what we shoot today. We spent a little time eating and just relaxing before we shot. It was drizzling a little at one point. Not too much to the point where we had to leave thankfully. The shot composed of me walking down a little path way after the death of my bestfriend. As I walk with a dazed look on my face you can hear speaking in the background. The shot is more so focused on my body language and facial expression. Zahra can be heard trying to grab my attention until the end of that scene. She doesn't end u...

Film Review- Feedback and Suggestions

Image
Hello, Kayla Here. So, this blog will be about the feedback that we received on our film. My groupmate Ariel and I are the ones who edited the film. So, I showed the film to both my mother and father. I also, showed it to my aunt and cousin. I got a few suggestions saying that we should cut the shooting scene which was originally from two angles. To allow us more time with the other clips to just keep it at one angle. It was also suggested by one of my older cousins to add a few more fade-outs. I had asked if I needed to make any changed to the lighting or anything of that sort. Just to see if it would make the video pop more. I was told no, it was fine the way it was. My father said to also add a few more fade-out shots. He, also suggested to enhance the sound of our voice so that it wouldn't be drowned out by the music that was placed over it. Overall most of the suggestions were the same. It was mostly on the fade-outs. Along with how we should double checked to make sure that o...

Production Blog: Filming On Halt

Image
Hello, Kayla here. So today my groupmates and I planned to film most of our shots. This was really due to a mistake I made. My groupmate Hervis and I are the main actors in this film. Seeing as I am the one with the gorpo that is being used to film I always need to be there when we are going to film. We spoke about this the night prior. Where we were going to meet. I made sure that the address was given our just in case the directions given were not clear. I did that because I wasn't sure if I was going to be present when they were ready to leave school grounds Today. One of my school clubs has meeting every Thursday and seeing as today is Thursday I probably wasn't going to make it to either on time. I say this because I had to go and inform the president that I would be about 20 or so minutes late to the meeting;  maybe even 30. So, this morning I made a mistake by forgetting the gopro. Normally I would have asked my mom if we could turn back around so I can go grab it reappl...

Production Blog: Filming Solo Shots

Image
Hello, Kayla here. This blog post will be pertaining to the progress we have made with filming. Over the break my groupmate Ariel and I met up to start filming. What we will be using to film is the gopro at the moment. We had a little trouble with trying to figure our how to attach the gopro to the tripod. I'm working on that and hopefully can have it figured out before we film again in the upcoming days. We met at a park that's close to our school. My other groupmates unfortunately couldn't make it due to them either being out of state or not being able to make it. So, due to that Ariel and I spoke about what shots we will film prior to meeting up. There were concerns about whether or not we would be able to meet that day at all. That was due to the weather. There were thunderstorms the night before that went on well into the early morning hours. I then checked the forecast and it was predicted to rain. The time that we were trying to establishended up being pushed back to...

Production Blog: Final Props

Image
Hello, Kayla here. This blog will be about the final props that my group and I will be using to shoot this film. In the previous blog I mentioned the first few props that I gathered. Those being the fake blood I had purchased along with the fake BB gun. Those are still apart of the props that we will be using. I spoke to my groupmate Hervis about bring along some additional white shirts. I said white shirts specifically because I think that I would work best with the fake blood. I'm not exactly sure if the color of the item would change how the blood would appear. This is my first time e using fake blood first-hand myself. I just think that a white shirt would be our safest option. I also have a gopro 9 for filming. Although I am in the midst of getting an actual camera. That camera being a Canon EOS 90D. That process is almost complete. I also have a tripod. I do believe that tripod will be am additional due to the fact that the camera I am are ordering appears to come with everyt...

Production Blog: Props

Image
Hey, Kayla here. This blog will about my group and I'm filming process and how that has been going. My group mate Ariel and I were going to start filming today. We didn't end up filming today due to the weather. It was raining so that was no longer an option. I ended up having to rush home due to the rain that was on the verge of pouring heavily. We did speak about the props that I have gathered for the film so far along with the emails we sent out. Over the weekend I have gathered some of the props that are needed for the film. I ordered the fake blood that we will be using on Hervis. It's a 16oz bottle of cake blood. It is still in its wrapper due to me not wanting it to spill or leak anywhere. I did do some research and in some cases it leaves back very noticeable stains. I'm trying to avoid that which is why I have not opened it yet and will no do so until we are ready to shoot the scene/ scenes it will be required in. I was originally going to use red food coloring...

Production Blog: How The Music Is Going.

Image
Hey, Kayla here. This blog will be my second music blog. My group mate Ariel and I decided on tye first four songs. Those songs will be Alright by Kendrick, I can't breath by H.E.R., and The Hate You Give by Bobby Sessions and This Is American by Childish Gambino. I have contacted the first three artist through social media. I have message Kendrick, H.E.R., and Bobby Sessions through Instagram. I also went ahead and found their labels. Ariel and I emailed everyone who we found. Thr artist, record label, producer...just as much people as we could. It took us a while to find those contacts. I attempted to message the artist through another social media platform such as Twitter. When I attempted to do so I realized that I couldn't. I thought it was because I forgot how to message but that wasn't the case. I went ahead and updated the app to the latest version hoping it would fix the issue I was having. It did not, I didn't have the messaging option for H.E.R. nor Bobby Ses...

Production Blog: Music Choices

Image
Hello, Kayla here, this is my first production blog for this project. This blog will be about which songs my group and I have selected to use for our film and how we went about doing so. The music choices go back to/ correlates with the pitch that my group and I selected. Our final Pitch is a young Black girl witnesses the brutal murder of her best friend and goes on the path of getting justice. When I started lookibg for songs, I wanted a song that really went with our pitch and storyline. When I had came up with the pitch, I immediately came up with the storyline and started thinking about music choices. The songs that were selected for the film tell a story of what we as Black and Brown people has faced in America. Detaling our struggles in society and the issues that we struggle with on a day to day basis. I really wanted to find music that would tell a story...tell our story. Something that was detailed and allowing you the viewers to not only be able to se but hear as well. The s...

Title Design Blog

Image
TITLE DESIGN BLOG Our titles will be a mix of free floating and embedded, actors name’s and the movie title will be most likely be  embedded. With regards to what items, things like personal items, street signs, or store signs are good options. Most of the production related titles will be free-floating. This seems like a good idea to us since it will emphasize who’s on screen and who handled the background work. Having shots go to black in order to put focus on a text and build tensions in our scenes also seems like something to incoporate. In regards to font, our font needs to fit the story that we have, so something bolder would be best. Something like Gill Sans Ultra Bold, or STHupo. If we decided to go with something less bold then, Perpetua Tilting Mt would be a nice alternative. In regards to color, a black, white, or gray would be good, as a bright color would not fit, and may look garish. Overall, our titles should be with a bold or very serious looking font, and have a nu...

There is a total of about 29 titles in the movie, Hostage.  2. What connotations do the images carry? (how do you they make you feel) The images carry a mysterious connotation. All of the images are color coded to dark and plain colors. These colors include: dark red, black and gray. Although the music is slow and gentle, the images depict a different story. The majority of the images are that of buildings that seemingly tower over readers, guns and streets of a city. This gives viewers the feeling of a sort of power struggle.  3.
