Production Blog: Music Choices

Hello, Kayla here, this is my first production blog for this project. This blog will be about which songs my group and I have selected to use for our film and how we went about doing so. The music choices go back to/ correlates with the pitch that my group and I selected. Our final Pitch is a young Black girl witnesses the brutal murder of her best friend and goes on the path of getting justice. When I started lookibg for songs, I wanted a song that really went with our pitch and storyline. When I had came up with the pitch, I immediately came up with the storyline and started thinking about music choices. The songs that were selected for the film tell a story of what we as Black and Brown people has faced in America. Detaling our struggles in society and the issues that we struggle with on a day to day basis. I really wanted to find music that would tell a story...tell our story. Something that was detailed and allowing you the viewers to not only be able to se but hear as well. The songs that were chosen are the following: I can't breath by H.E.R, Alright by Kendrick Lamar, The Hate You Give by Bobby Sessions FT. Keite Young, The Bigger Picture by Lil Baby, Stay Woke, by Meek Mill, This is American by Childish Gambino, and finally Stand Up by none other than Cynthia Erivo. I chose these artist because they are people who's musuc I connect with or these songs just resonated with me. Cynthia Erivo for example is an amazing performer. When I first Stand Up it resignated with me in a way that a song hadn't in a really long time. Bobby Sessions is another artist who makes music that I gravitate to. The first time I heard this song...the full song was actually when I was doing the reasearch for what songs we should do. The message is powerful and correlates so well into our message and storyline. My group mate Ariel and I have already emailed two of these artists, the two individuals being H.E.R and Kendrick Lamar. I have already started drafting up the emails that will be sent to Bobbi Sessions and Meek Mill. Ariel and I plan to review those emails and send them along with  the remaining emails off in the next few days to those artists and their teams. I also will be messaging these artists through social media( Instagram, Twitter, etc.).
