The images that are being prioritized in the opening sequence are the main character, what the main character is wearing, bars belonging to a jail cell, war wepons such as a tank and guns, vehicles, along with the White House.
3. How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset? (Can you tell
what genre the film is)
The connotation the showing of the main character without directly pointing out that they are the main character. It's letting the viewers know this individual is the main character. The bars are the bars belonging to a jail cell indicating that the person has been convicted of some type of crime. The clothing itself which is a prisoners jumpsuit points to that as well. The war wepons and vehicles( choppers, cars, etc.) let the viewers know that this is a film filled with action and most likely has some type of tie back to the government; as does the White House being shown towards the end of the sequence.
4.What conventions are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?
The film establishes a feeling of the genre by showing in the opening sequence items such as choopers, tanks, armed wepons, the main character being an inmate etc. This allows the viewers to view that opening sequence and take note that this is an Action film.
